(A competition for folk and traditional artists of India)
“Paint The Wall" competition, a segment of the International Gita Mahotsav 2017, by kurukshetra Development Board (KDB), held in Kurukshetra, Haryana. This initiative was taken by Deputy Commissioner ma’am Sumedha Kataria (Kurukshetra).
The competition is being held for all the folk artists of India, where they are being given a chance to showcase their creativity through their traditional art forms. The purpose of proposing this competition was to create one large platform for all kind of folk artists of India to come together and paint the walls of kurukshetra to bring vibrancy and joy in the city. The programme was also proposed to create awareness about various type of folk arts in India depicted through painting narratives from the stories of Gita and Mahabharata.
The participants travelled by 17th November from across India namely Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi etc. to showcase their regional depiction of ancient paintings that they are practising now.
On 18th & 19th they have completed the area of around 12000 sq. ft. with over 250 artists divided in 56 teams. There were five locations in the city that witnessed the colours on walls— namely, opposite KDB office, Gita Dham, Opposite Videocon building, next to tourism information center, pipli & the longest area on the ramp of pipli flyover.
The vision behind this was beautification of heritage city with our cultural background.
